Why we shouldn’t keep animals in zoos

Why we shouldn’t keep animals in zoos

My name is Noah and I strongly believe that animals should not be kept in zoos.  Why we put them in cages is for our own entertainment, but isn’t it just sad for the animals? They don’t have to be in an enclosure for you could go see the animal yourself,  so they don’t have to be locked up in fake enclosures.

Firstly If we keep them in the same cage for the rest of their lives they aren't learning for themselves. People are just giving them what they need and the predators aren’t learning to hunt, their just getting fed.

Secondly at some zoos they make the enclosure to small and the animals don’t have enough space to roam and explore.  Also where do the first animals come from? Do they take them away from their families for example, Sissy the elephant was taken rip away from her family when she was a 1 year old, how would you like it if you were taken from your family?

Thirdly if their endangered then we could put them in a nature reserve and let the animals thrive so they have a stronger chance of surviving and then when they're ready they can go back out to the wild.

Fourthly  If you think you can’t learn about them there's lots of documentaries about various animals in their natural habitats. There is also safaris where  people can go observe and experience African animals in the wild.

So if you're taken away from your home put into a small cage and was there just to be looked at, would that be fair? So in conclusion that's why I think we shouldn’t keep animals in zoos, after all we're animals too.

My name is Lakshitha. I live in the West Coast of the South Island, a bit far from Paihia. I totally agree that animals shouldn’t be cooped up in cages.

Is your class practicing persuasive writing? Well, if you are, you did a great job. I also liked the picture at the end which said ‘not ours to use for entertainment.’ In our class we’re doing information reports at the moment.

Maybe, next time you could….. Never mind I can’t think of anything you should change in your writing. But I think it you could’ve made your font a bit smaller so that people didn’t need to scroll down, to read it all.

wow you just blew my mind everything about this story is true now that I think about it we do really just have zoos just to look at animals although some of the animals are rescued from danger or anything like that once they get better we just keep them in the zoo instead of releasing them back into the wild and it seems like we just keep them at the zoo until the animals stop living anyway keep going with your awesome work.

Hi my name is Reuben, I go to Karoro School down in the South Island on the West Coast in Greymouth, quite a long way down from where you are.

I have read right through your entire statement about “Why We Shouldn’t Keep Animals In Zoos” and I strongly disagree with some of your points although it was very interesting to read. Firstly I have seen animals that have been very happy to live in zoos and get lots of company from people. Secondly I have seen a lot of animals that have lived in some really big spaces with lots of toys. And thirdly if animals are endangered they can just go live at the zoo because they will get lots of company and will be safe and sound until they are ready to go back out into wildlife, or they can just continue to live in the zoo.

I’m not here to comment and talk about how all your writing is bad, because it’s not, you have a really good statement about animals that get taken away at a young age from their families, which is wrong. You have a really good piece of writing, it’s just that I don’t agree with some of your points.
